Today's Action

| Permalink | Comments (0) | JPBT , Life | ( 28/12/2005 - 10:04 PM )

So today's action (well, primarily the second last sentence) (if you could call it that), was carried out in Ward 14B (aka: Oncology Ward). Strangely, whilest ward 9B is on floor #9, ward 14B is on the main entry level (aka: the 2nd (I think) floor).

Hopefully tomorrow he'll be able to come home.

Given the possible prognosis (ie: crap), Sydney for new year's isn't a goer.

... another hospital. This time Canberra Hospital.

Sigh...

Unexpected Sydney Trip

| Permalink | Comments (0) | JPBT , Life | ( 26/12/2005 - 8:26 PM )

So Christmas hasn't happened yet. Apparently.

Saturday night (9.30 pm) I drove mumsies up to Sydney. Getting there at 1 am or something. After talking to people for an hour, we stayed in a lodge run by Rotary at RNS for a couple of hours until more talkies, then a couple of hours more sleep. We crashed a relo's Christmas lunch - but this was ok considering everything. Another relo overnight, then today - RNS in the late morning / lunch. We left early afternoon to come back home.

And had lobster for din dins. yum.

My plans for new years in Sydney are a bit questionable (but probably will still be a goer), as I'll want to stay down here for a bit. To be sorted.

Anyhow, Christmas has moved to tomorrow!

2004 - spent the start of new years in Canberra Hospital Emergency
2005 - spent the start of Christmas in Royal North Shore Emergency
2006 - a quiet one hopefully?

Delays

Well, I'm in Canberra: my flight was only slightly delay when we were sitting on the ground waiting for some baggage (apparently). 5 or 10 mins delay all up. Apparently that's pretty good really.

House of Flying Daggers

Goodness gracious, I've watched a movie.

So, to begin with, what does "Attack From Ten Sides" (ει’εŸ‹δΌ) have to do with "House Of Flying Daggers"?

Anyhow, back to the movie. I was recommended this movie when we we're in Xi'an, which is the site of Chang'an, the capital city of China for a fair bit of Chinese history, including the Tang dynasty (about 600 to 900 AD, considered to be the height of Chinese civilisation). The cultural show we went to there was pretty spectacular - go the long sleeves!

Anyhow, the movie was pretty good - a love story, martial arts, betrayal, with very nice photography - set during the decline of the Tang dynasty. Good stuff. (But maybe not fantastic?)

More movies for me next year.

Cleanup

| Permalink | Comments (0) | IT , Website | ( 20/12/2005 - 7:43 PM )

So, I've finished the cleanup of this website. It will be two years old soon, and has only one reorganisation in that time (I think) - so it was due for some changes. Some of the changes made are:

* Move to Movable type 3.2 (instead of 2.6.something). This gives access to: subcategories (useful for incorporating photos into the main blog), better comment handling (and deletion when I get my quaterly or so spamming); and dynamic page building (useful for reducing the limited amount of space I have available).
* Update of the about page
* Update (fix) of the buttons at the top. Apparently they were broken in Internet Explorer.
* Moving the Links button to the right end. Makes more sense. Archive, Photos and China are all generated by the same blog, just different. Links is the odd part out.
* Deletion of the 'archive entry listing'. It wasn't being used much, and was stupid and getting annoying.
* Photos are now displayed with the newest first (like the rest of the site), not the other way around. *** but I'm having second thoughts about this
* Resize one of the China photos so that it fits in with the rest of the site correctly.
* Better handling of images
* Deletion of the link to the ZhongGuo, aka 'China memories' blog. When I actually have done a lot more work on it, then I'll link to it. It will still be available at that location, but it's not ready now, so it won't be included now.
* Publishing of a previously unpublished entry. See if you can find it!!! (needle, haystack)
* There maybe a change to the display of the monthly archive list, to break it into columns - one for each year. Assuming I ever get around to it.

I was having lots of problems getting the migrated version of my main blog to publish dynamically, but worked first time with a newly created blog. So, I just created a new, and imported everything over. The "Dynamic Site Bootstrapper" template wasn't created when I imported my database, which was half of the problem. That file needs to contain something like this:

<?php
include('[path to mt]/php/mt.php');
$mt = new MT(10, '[path to mt]/mt-config.cgi');
$mt->view();
?>

Where 10 is the blog id number of the number of the blog that will serve up the pages (this is important!!).

If there's anything that looks like it's wrong, or any suggestions, please comment and let me know.

The Day Before Christmas

| Permalink | Comments (1) | Life | ( 19/12/2005 - 12:36 AM )

Christmas is tomorrow, in case you hadn't noticed. Well it is in our house (on Friday I'll be leaving for Canberra).

There's a $5 limit on presents. And they have to be funny.

Stress for me.

The changes to this website are still ongoing... Hopefully finish by the new year.

There's yet another blog on the internet. This one is at http://jspaice.blogspot.com/. Gee, I'd really like to meet the person who set it up :)

Ohh, while I'm at it, I may as well link to a particular Canberra Times article, and the follow up.

Not yet 11pm...

... So I can post.

I think that I have figured out most of last fortnight's stuff.

I just have to change the way I have perceived myself for pretty much the last 10 - 15 years...

Easy. har har.

But this should make this a lot better for me :)
