Well, the votes are in:
* 1 for a bit (1-2 cm) shorter
* 1 + 1 + 1 and her mum = 4 for looks good - keep it
* 1 for yeah, "ok I suppose - 70's or something".

So, the long sideburns stay for a while.

Lovely day today.

Gee, I Bet No One Has Ever Taken This Shot Before

Genius, pure genius. I'm in two states at once - straddling the border on my dinner trip (a couple of weeks back) down at Coolangatta.

Me In NSW and QLD at the Same Time

Bit Tired, Drained

So last night a good friend was over, spending ~6 hours talking about lots of stuff. Due to the wine; there was more conversation from me on a wider range of things, some of it was sad (dad stuff - so feel a bit drained), fun (as expected with this guest), funny (again, as expected with this guest), interesting (sex and stuff), and vaguely interesting but with less carefactor (religion stuff), with some useful advice ("women"), and so forth (clothes), and entertaining (doctor). Ohh, yummy too (desert). :) Should do it all again sometime!

So I went to bed at 12:30 or a bit after that, but then I also couldn't sleep from about 3am to 5am. Great. So just a tad bit tired now...

Well, for various reasons, I'm considering a change in my beard. Hmmmm. And for other reasons I'll do something tomorrow night. Some useless links: here, here, and not so relevant here.

Completeness

For completeness, well, really, just as a reminder to me; from the past few weeks:

* Thursday's evening trip to Coolangatta was pretty good - having dinner with C & L. 1:35 going down (traffic after the gateway tolls and at the merge with the SE expressway were in either 1st or 2nd gear); 1:15 coming back up - both times going over the Gateway bridge. The Twin Towns club has lots of pokies. It's in NSW - and there was smoke there... booo. But there were two clocks on the wall - for NSW and QLD time. One was 10 minutes or so slow, can't remember which one, so I'll say it was the NSW clock that was slow :). The food in Coolangatta seems a bit cheaper than other places - less done up than Surfers. There might be a photo of me being in QLD and NSW at the same time.

* Pirates of the Carribean 2: Dead Man's Chest is a good bit of fun (popcorn movie). So is Superman Returns.

* Tchaikovsky Symphony #4 was pretty good, enjoyable piece. So was Weber - Oberon Overture.

* Elixar was tops.

* Over the next few weeks some of my free time will be taken up by several QUT assignments - lots of work to do...

In Search Of Sustainability

I've just finished reading In Search Of Sustainability - published by CSIRO 2005. It's a very interesting read into heaps of different (although linked) aspects (health, inequality, conflict, growth economies, land use, water, climate change, energy, urban design, transport, work, population - yes, this is pretty much a list of the table of contents :) ) of sustainability for the future. The focus is on Australia, but some about world issues. The chapters are short (suits my reading style fine) - just overviews of each of the topics. But it is a 'learned' book - interesting: and everyone should read it.

On The Road To Wellington

Taken from a truck stop in the morning of our trip from Canberra to Wellington (western NSW) - week before last.

Times

| Permalink | Comments (2) | Life | ( 11/07/2006 - 11:23 PM )

So yesterday I walked to work. 24 minutes from door to desk - at a fairly casual pace, stopping for a bit to cross a train line and a major road intersection. So, it potentially could be a bit less if was lucky.

This is compared to 12 1/2 minutes when driving. (The actual driving time is just 3 to 4 minutes, but the car park is a bit of a walk from my desk...).

So, I think that I'll start walking once or twice a week. Not if I'm going to the gym. Speaking of which, this afternoon had a bit of a go on the rowing machine. Brings back some memories of Lake Burley Griffin!

Under the codriver seat of my car. (Missing since the move)...

One CD to go.

Run

| Permalink | Comments (0) | Life | ( 07/07/2006 - 8:52 PM )

Well, the Bridge To Brisbane run is on next month... I'm not ready for it (ie: haven't done any significant running in at least 1/2 a year), so I'm thinking about (and am vaguely motivated) to go in the 2007 event... So I have a bit of time to prepare.

The Buff Is Back

I got my clarinet back from the repair guy earlier this evening. It sounds, feels, looks good. Although I haven't really given it a good play (I've got a bit of a cold, boo); hopefully better by the weekend. I played it a bit in the shop just to test it out and it all seemed fine. He soaked it in oil overnight - it was too dry, replaced all pads, fixed up a few small things, and generally made it a nicer instrument. Yay! Can't wait to be better to practice a decent amount!

No Spanish

| Permalink | Comments (0) | Life | ( 06/07/2006 - 8:22 PM )

So I've just moved my reminder email from IML from the Inbox ('to be actioned') to the archive folder - I won't be doing any language (ie: Spanish) this coming semester. Maybe start of 2007?

I think that I won't have enough time. QWAB is taking some of my time (compared to Mandarin classes at the start of last year). And I have two big QUT assignments to do...
