The other day I got $200 from the QLD Government - water rebate for my washing machine... Took a while (4 months+), apparently they've been swamped with applications... But a good idea, considering the water situation.
That is a good idea, how does it work?
Does it have something to do with the water efficiency of the machine?
Yeah,
If you buy a new washing machine that has 4 or more stars for water efficiency (typically more costly machines, but less water, electricity usage in the long run), then the state government gives you the rebate. Rebate applies to other things: efficient shower heads, dual flush toilets, rainwater tanks, etc. http://www.nrw.qld.gov.au/water/saverscheme/rebate_schemes.html
South East QLD doesn't have much water at the moment (http://www.seqwater.com.au/content/standard.asp?name=DamOperationsandMaintenance) and is on level 5 restrictions (http://www.qwc.qld.gov.au/)
