The dam levels of south east Queensland is reported on the SEQWater website.
The upshot of the reinstall of Windows is that I lost my millions of bookmarks (that I never really looked at anyway - except for my list of people's blogs). So I'll be putting them up here, methinks.
Great song: Mr Bojangles, nice performance by Sammy Davis Jr.
So my new computer is mostly together now. The remaining programs I'll install as required.
I was having trouble re-lettering one of the drives. For some reason it wouldn't let me from the disk management console. So, edited the registry directly: using this - How to restore the system/boot drive letter in Windows - as a guide. Works now.
The two main things that I've lost from this whole process are: the list of RSS feeds that I subscribed too; and my Firefox bookmarks. The later was getting very clogged up (I hadn't cleaned it out in ages). It was just the list of people's blogs that I ever used it for, and for saving links to interesting articles. Monitor is sorted out - after I got the driver for it (just using the video driver on the motherboard).
The description of the land of the next rogaine:
The area is gently undulating, dry, open eucalypt forest with an extensive track network. The elevation difference between the lowest and highest points on the map is less than 70 metres and there are no steep areas, but also minimal flat areas.
Sweet. :)
So for the past week or so I haven't been able to feed my addiction of checking my emails every 30 seconds. Well, alright, 60. teehee.
Anyhow, my old machine died - power supply going, taking the motherboard with it. The power supply connection to the motherboard had 4 pins (and corresponding points on the motherboard) wrecked, plastic melted away, etc. More info later. Maybe, if I have time - I've got heaps of other things to blog about. Anyhow. Took a fair bit of today (public holiday - Ekka) to get it going - heaps and heaps (~100 excluding the service pack) of patchs for Windows.
Ended up getting new box, power supply, motherboard, CPU, RAM. Kept hard drives (but system partition was wiped to reinstall Windows), kept peripherals and CD / DVD drives. I think that I could have gotten away with not reinstalling windows - but my machine was getting slow and bloated full of stuff - a clean start was in order.
List of things still to sort out:
* Lettering of drives (changing I: to K: - important for Carbonite).
* Video screen refresh rate
* Video funnyness
* RSS Feeds
* Some missing programs still to be installed
* Other programs to be sorted out (tweaked) (Firefox, etc)
* And now doubt more stuff that I haven't realised about yet.
On the upside, I got a USB Bluetooth adaptor - I can synchronise my phone with the computer without plugging anything in, etc. Nifty.
Now, quiz for the day. What did I call the new machine?... other things of mine get geographical names from the Americas... this is elevated water.
