So the BBQ that I hosted last Friday went really well, I really enjoyed it; and good feedback from people there. But several things to sort out for next time (aka: end of April): anti-mosquito stuff (it rained in the afternoon of last Friday - which brought out the mozzies - annoying); refill gas cylinder and get a spare; budget less meat (in particular sausages). Was tops as though.
So my trip to South America is going ahead this year. My leave from work is booked, flights booked, tour deposit paid for a 6 week trip in Peru, Bolivia (on a tour) and Chile (by myself) later this year. It should be excellent (I hope). I'll be starting Spanish classes in a few weeks time, so this will help me when I'm travelling in Chile.
Anyhow, the "big" things I need to sort out now are: medical shots; new glasses; new shoes (my old 'good' travelling / walking shoes died last year); possibly a camera (small), maybe a new mp3 player / flash drive (my current one is on it's way out).
Exciting.
This link went around work yesterday: cool image of Obama's inauguration speech (you can zoom in heaps).
Just a note that the National Portrait Gallery is worth a visit if you're in Canberra - especially if you're into history or art.
Over the past few weeks 4 different groups of people have “commented” when I’ve been jogging or running at my local park: a car of blokes yelling something; a car of chicks cheering when I was stretching; some guy yelling “run Forrest” (when I was doing a sprint), and another guy offering me a beer. In some ways I should just get a new jogging route. But I like this one – because there’s no road crossings or driveways; an option for a dirt track or grass all the way around, and close to my unit. Hmmm.
I use public transport occasionally. Going into the city and back. Doing stuff occasionally, other random trips. Maybe two trips a week (on average). It seems that, for me (ie: occasional user), that for one or two trips (not more) on a weekday, it’s better to use a Go card; but for more than two trips, or on a weekend, it’s better to get a normal (paper) daily ticket. And by "weekday", I really mean "peak", etc. I would have thought that when it was introduced, that they put a cap on the daily amount equivalent to the daily ticket (so that then there’s no disincentive to use it?)? It’s kind of nifty though.
